week 2 response 2

I found the initial table in chapter 6 the most helpful. While the rest of the chapter has good overviews of how to research, I felt that it was this table that gave you specific things to do in order to properly organize your research the most helpful! I find it really helpful to have a visual list of the things that I need to do, and this outline is defiantly something I am planning on using for researching my speeches. I never quite thought of all of the things that are on this list, either! Identifying what I know usually goes along with all of the other information, not using it as a basis for getting started.
I am also super excited to start using the table on pages 138 & 139, which have great internet site resources. While it lists Yahoo! and ask.com, sites I have heard about, it also provides sites that could have more credible authors such as INFOMINE, a scholarly resources site that was created by librarians. This will be really handy and help to broaden the way that I collect information for my papers and presentations.

Yes, I agree with you on that! The whole chapter was helpful for doing effective research and I saw the table on page 138 and 139. I am definatly going to use that chart as well... I have never heard of alltheweb.com, but from its description it seems like the perfect tool for searching in a modified and detailed way to make sorting through all the information easier. Gigablast.com is even better because it offers suggestions on what you searched to ensure better results... so you don't have to think about how to put your words into multiple key words. Thanks for referring that chart!

It's interesting how you pay attention to the tables in the Chapter, because I tend to overlook tables and charts when I'm reading. I went back and looked at the tables you mentioned were helpful to you, and I agree that these overviews of how to research are new ideas and approaches to researching. I use a different approach to researching, but the phases of preparing and evaluating your topic seems to be helpful information. Now, I think I want to change my speech topic because after going through the questions you should ask yourself while preparing and identifying your topic, I don't really know how I would go about researching milkshakes. I think I might need to demonstrate something more complex, like how to exercise properly. The table about internet sites was also a helpful table to have when looking for info on the web.
