I found the section about adapting to your location the most helpful in this chapter. In most cases I have only had experience speech writing or presenting in a classroom setting, about 20-30 students. Because of this I have a certain level of informality stuck in the way I write my speeches. I also have only presented in a group where I know most if not all of the students, so they understand my level of credibility as well as making it less awkward for me to be giving my presentation, since I know my audience. This section has reminded me that even with people that you know or that you can identity with, you need to keep a certain level of formality to keep the focus on your presentation. This is very important because when you are doing a classroom presentation it can be difficult not to keep a professional tone.
Although I found this information helpful, I found some other parts of the section not so much. Where it talks about time of the presentation and how that effects the audience's alertness, it was kind of a no-brainer to me. Oh well, I guess it's not so clear to everybody!

Yes, I also think that adapting to your surroundings is a valuable skill to learn. Chapter five has lots of information about credibility and adapting to your audience. I can relate to your comment on how credibility can be a challenge if you are not doing it in front of people or classmates that you are familiar with. I am actually excited for this friday because I get to meet a whole bunch of new people. Yes, I know that it will be a challenge to speak in front of new people, but just remember that we are all in the same position. We are all here to conquer our fears of public speaking and to fine tune whatever we have learned. This friday, I'm going to make sure that I deliver a solid performance that hopefully will be very entertaining as well. I am going to try my best to touch upon all four areas of credibility. I am also going to anticipate any problems that might arise and solve them to the best of my ability. I'm going to practice every day of the week so that when the time comes, I will give it my best. I'm rooting for everyone to do well this friday!
I also believe it can be hard to stay focused when speaking to fellow classmates. Especially classmates you know so well. Many people will begin to feel relaxed, in a bad way. They will start to become less formal. There is nothing wrong with writing an informal speech! Some instances call for one (entertainment speeches, etc) but we must adapt to our settings - and to our topics. If, in a business setting, you become too informal with a speech it can wreak havoc on your professional life!
And I also agree with the last part - doesn't the length of your speech coincide with your audiences boredom?! Longer Speech = Bored Audience
